Kinda late, I know, but better late than never, right? Anyway, it was an eventful weekend.
Volunteer Camp
DH and I had planned to go for a Volunteer Camp over the weekend, but had forgotten to do anything about it, so after my last student of the day (at 7.30pm), I quickly packed the clothes and toiletries we needed and headed for the camp location (Downtown East in Pasir Ris). On my way there, Mum called, and asked what I was doing. Long story short, she was in the hospital because she had cut her hand while cleaning the house (MB). As she was in the hospital next to my bro’s place, I called him and let him know. I went to camp to dump my stuff, meet DH, and sit in for the opening ceremony and stuff. When we could, we took off to the hospital, eventhough my mum said that she was ok.
Hospital
Mum was cleaning the cooker hood as the tenants had left the place in a terrible condition. As she was putting it back up, it slipped, and when she used her hand to catch/steady it, one of the (stainless steel) edges cut her. It was her right (dominant) hand, on the thumb. Required six stitches. Ouch. By the time we got to the hospital, Mum was getting stitched up. Her appointment with the specialist would be on Tuesday.
Dinner / Supper
Since not one of us have had dinner, we went to have a really late dinner. After dropping my brother home, I drove Mum home [Mum drove herself to the hospital, after stopping the bleeding, and cleaning herself up, and putting the things she brought to the house into the cupboards and fridge. :O Why she didn’t call one of us, or get a cab (since my bro was having a bad flu, and she knew that I had a lesson on – could have still called regardless) is beyond me.] Along the way, I dropped DH of at his former place of work as they had an emergency and needed his help (called him while we were at camp). After I left Mum’s place (about 1am) I went back to his former office to see if he was done. He wasn’t quite, so I hung around and waited till he was. Got back to camp at about 3 am.
Volunteer Camp
The camp was a family volunteer camp held in conjunction with the President’s Challenge. We volunteered for ‘Animal Welfare’ (there were five groups in total). However, we instead worked with the Kennel Club, whose volunteers are involved in Pet Assisted Therapy. While interesting and eye-opening (we visited an intellectually disabled home), P.A.T. isn’t really for us. Primarily because we do not have a pet. I was also expecting something more along the lines of animal welfare, so I guess we’ll just have to do a little more research into that. If I did have a pet with the right temperament, I would definitely consider P.A.T.
Anyway, after a long day, camp was over. However, we were entitled to another night’s stay, so we fully utilised it. Since there was an X-box in the room, we rented a game (Batman, the return of Sin Tzu or something like that) from a store in the complex, and played till we were too tired to continue.
Wet and Wild
After we checked out of the room (10.30am), we dumped our things in the car, and went to the water theme park in the complex. We went on all the rides we wanted to once, and had stopped for lunch when it started to rain. Heavily. Since we couldn’t go for more rounds, and had a late afternoon arrangement with my bro and dad, we left. We went home first to have a bath and to rest up a little. DH checked the mail and found that he could collect his own X-box (foc with 2 year subscription of cable modem services), which we did, since it was on the way to my bro’s place. We then tested it out there. After which we had dinner, and returned home.
A long and busy and eventful weekend indeed.
Update
Went with Mum for her appointment yesterday. She has nerve damage and the Dr recommended that she go for an op. She was rather apprehensive, and opted to think about it and let the Dr know when she next sees her on Monday. However, later in the day, Mum felt that her thumb was getting more numb, and so will be opting for the op.
