It's been ages since I last posted, hasn't it?
Let's see. I finished my stint at MSS 26 Oct 2007. I was there for 10 months, and managed to accumulate loads and loads of stuff, which I took about a week to clear.
There was a slight confusion as to when I was supposed to start at RP. Originally, I was supposed to go in for a lesson 29/10/07, but then the teacher I was supposed to cover (we'll call her A) emailed me and said that she would be able to do it after all. We both thought that the person in charge had forgotten to inform me. I smsed her to confirm, but she was in Perth, so did not respond. Turned out, she was aware that A would be available, and wanted me to cover B. Unfortunately, because A emailed me, I assumed that she only wanted me to cover A, so I did not turn up for work that day. By the time I woke up, it was way late, and I had two frantic messages from her. I called back, but of course she was in class, so I left a message. Anyway, she managed to find someone else to go in, but there was a lot of confusion and stress on her part. (Sorry, Rachel)
So, that week, I had one class on Wed, followed by a 1 week break. Yay!
From the 12th onwards, I facilitated 4 days a week - Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri. All the full-time staff (including my SIL was like "are you crazy? how can you cope? it's going to be so tiring!"
I'm like "What are you talking about? It's one day less than I worked at Montfort! I get a day off! In the middle of the week! Moreover, I get a 1 hr and a 2 1/2 hr break in between. That's way more than the 1/2 hr I sometimes get at Montfort, where I have to teach for 4hrs at a stretch some days, 6 to 7 hrs some days, with only a 1/2 'lunch' break, during which 15 mins is taken up collecting work from the class just b4 recess. I'm lucky if I didn't have to wolf down some food (usually a sandwich that SP kindly left on my desk) while simultaneously multi-tasking. What's wrong with you people?"
Here, class starts ar 9am, goes on for an hr, after which we have a 1 hr break, go back to class at 10am for anotr hr, break till 2:30pm and go back to class till 4:30pm. Sure, the day may sound long, but heck, I used to work till 6+, 7pm daily at MSS anyway.
If is somewhat tiring, but not really more so than before. The only thing is that I now wake up at 6+, and leave the house by 7:15am, solely to beat the morning rush hr. (If I leave later, I'll get stuck in traffic, and if there's an accident, I won't be able to get to work on time. Happened to me several times. Late once, cut it really close several times). So now I leave early, but get to RP early enough to get a copy of Today and Business Times, and have a leisurely breakfast and prepare for class.
Waking up that early is tiring, especially since I'm still going to bed rather late. Hopefully I'll get into the swing of things soon enough. Other than that, things are great. As a part-time staff here, I only have to facilitate and give the daily grade and comments. No marking. No lesson planning. No looking for resources. This is heavenly. I am so enjoying the opportunity to slack. This week, I've even taken to visiting the gym during the long 2 1/2 hr lunch. :) Hoping to lose some of the weight I put on at Montfort. Make that hoping to lose all the weight I put on at Montfort. I tell you. Irregular meal times wreak havoc on me. I put on so much weight it is not funny.
Well, the term of 5 weeks is almost over (this is the final week, yay!) and we'll have a break of 3 weeks, double yay.
Still trying to get tickets to either Perth of Shanghai after Christmas.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get the house in order next week. It's a mess at the moment. Sigh. If I succeed, then maybe we can have a gathering at my place for Christmas. :)
