New Year, New Beginnings

Ok. I'm a little late, seeing that it's now the 8th day of 2004.

It is now 2306 hrs, and I am in DH's office. It being Thursday, dinner was supposed to be with Mum and bro. This week, we thought that we'd have it at home. As luck would have it, at the last minute, DH couldn't make it due to some crisis at work. Since Mum brought brownies and ice-cream for dessert, I thought I'd bring his share for him to enjoy. Wouldn't you know it, he did not notice me in the room when he entered, but he did note the food. ;P So typical. :D

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

It is the new year. And as mentioned in the title, it is a new beginning for me. I've resigned from my teaching job, and I'm now unemployed. Or, as I prefer, a "lady of leisure". :D

I've been attempting to get fit (and hopefully lose some weight) by walking 30 - 45 mins a day. Other than that, I haven't been up to much - cleaning bits of the house now and then. It's rather enjoyable. Of course, I do not think that this will be a long term thing. For one, I don't think we can keep it up financially - there *is* a mortgage to pay. For another, I might get a little *too* used this life. I intend to take up some part time work - teaching probably. I also intend to start up my own business. But not yet. I do want to enjoy this period of having no responsibilities for a while yet.

In other news, Christmas and New Year's were rather quiet affairs. Spent Christmas Eve with Mum. Celebrated Christmas Day quietly with DH. Boxing Day was a little more eventful - we had some friends over for dinner. We had Mushroom Pasta, Crab Pasta, Roast Pork (rolled), Spare Ribs, Salad and some finger food (potato wedges and chicken nuggets). The food was pretty well received. Yay! I was a little over ambitious and was going to do all on my own. I went down to town (can't remember why - I think it was a facial and a few more ingredients). Anyway, I met up with mum who gave me a lift home. When I got back, Mum helped by setting the table, making putting final finishing touches to the flat, and checking that the food cooked well and did not burn while I prepared the food. She was a great help. I would not have gotten things done as quickly if not for her help. Thanks Mum! :D

On New Year's Day, we had lunch with Dad at Red Star. A rather large proportion of Singapore also had the same idea. There was a long queue of people waiting for tables. Fortunately, the turnover was fast, and we had a yummy lunch of dimsum. :)'

Chinese New Year is coming up (22 Jan), and I've got spring-cleaning and decorating to do. Most of the living area is fine. I reorganised the store room a little today.

I've still got to do the studies, the bedroom, the bathrooms and the windows. (Wow... that's quite a lot of things to do... its a good thing that I'm not working :P)

Next weekend (17 Jan), Mum and I will be making pineapple tarts.

I've still got to go buy foodstuff for the parents - for the reunion dinner and the rest of the year.
