A Nice Relaxing Morning.

Went for a prenatal massage at Remede Spa at St Regis this morning.  It was my foc 60 min Customised Massage that came with my Astor Card membership which I bought last year.  It was sooooooo goooood!  Very relaxing and painless, and yet, completely effective - no more aches and pains for the rest of the day.

My appointment was at 10:15am, and Mr Milo dropped me off.  I was about an hour early, so I changed into a robe and then read in the sensorial lounge (the papers and a book on teaching baby to read), sipping orange and mint flavoured water until the therapist came and got me.

The massage bed was really comfy.  It was not too hard and I did not get a back ache even when lying on the side.  When I had to lie flat, the therapist adjusted the bed so that my back was elevated at an angle, and my knees were bent.  I cannot emphasise how comfortable that feels as a pregnant woman who has trouble getting into any comfortable sitting/lying position.  Shiok.

As mentioned, the massage itself was painless.  Which was nice, as massages can sometimes hurt quite a bit.  And although I suffered no pain, all the aches and pains - lower back, upper back, the fatigue in my shoulders - were gone after the massage.  So I guess the adage 'no pain, no gain' does not hold true here.

After the massage, I was led back to the sensorial lounge where I was served rose petal tea (no caffine) and 3 gorgeous pieces of chocolate, which I enjoyed while reading some more.  When the tea started getting bitter (probably 15 - 20 mins later), I went and took a shower.  I was almost done putting on the finishing touches of lipstick and blusher (after drying my hair) when Mr Milo called and offered to pick me up.

He dropped me at Kovan where I had a quick lunch and then went to Maybank and Standard Charted to close some accounts and move the money to OCBC for our share of the down payment for Nexlabs' office unit.  I then bought some fresh and dried fruit form Cold Storage and went home just in time to let our part-time helper in.

The experience at the Remede Spa was wonderful.  It is a pity that I cannot afford to go there on a more regular basis.  A 60 min massage like I had today normally costs S$180++, and that is simply too rich for my blood.  As mentioned, it was part of the welcome package I got for signing up as an Astor Club member in April last year.  The membership itself was rather pricey.  I think it was S$788++ for a year's membership.  I do not regret spending a small fortune on it, as I got quite a bit out of it.  JH and I utilised our one night's free stay (came with free evening wine tasting, free use of the wet spa facilities and 2 breakfasts) for his birthday last year.  We had Mother's Day brunch at Yan Ting there last year (S$98++/pax, 25% off).  2 birthday cakes at 50% off (well, 1 at 50% off, 1 at 100% off as they forgot to charge me for it).  My birthday dinner there at 25% off, I think Mum's birthday dinner was there too, also at 25% off).  I also brought Mum there for an afternoon tea one day 1 foc, the other at 25% off (it was $38++ then).

Then this month, I frantically scrambled to redeem all the other 'experiences' that came with the membership - Mr Milo and I had brunch at Yan Ting - 1 foc, the other at 25% off, and I treated Mum to a facial and dinner package (Alchemy Facial normally at S$250 each, now 1 for 1, with 2 dinners at La Brezza thrown in), 2 free afternoon teas for referring someone else to join  - I took Pei Fern on Tuesday (now S$56++) as Mum was travelling - I had to squeeze her in between trips - the facial-cum-dinner was done on the day she returned from India, a few days before she flew off to China).  And then massage today.  There are actually a few more experiences I will not manage to redeem.  1 is being picked up and dropped off by Bentley for dinner at St Regis.  Also, free wine tasting and 2 free cocktails (1 for 1), one 50% off room rate, one free upgrade to a suite, wet spa experience ($85++, 1 for 1).  There's also a Sunday Champagne brunch (S$170++, 1 for 1) that I'm letting Kor enjoy as I cannot take alcohol now.  So all in all, I did get more back (in $ value) than what I paid for the membership, so I'm happy.  No regrets.  I did enjoy the experiences I had.  The service there is excellent, and I enjoyed the relaxed and wow feeling I had when ever I went.  Mum really enjoyed her day at the spa too.

They keep calling me to renew my membership with them for S$688++, but I'm not biting.  Although I have no regrets, I don't think I want to spend that kind of money on the same thing again.  The best thing about this membership experience - the room, the spa and the food at Yan Ting.  The dinner at La Brezza was yummy.  The afternoon tea at La Brasserie was nothing to shout about.  The buffets at La Brasserie were good, but again, nothing so out of this world that I would want to go back again and again.  Yan Ting, yes.  Good food.  But then how often can we eat there?  Can't be every birthday dinner, right?

Maybe every now and then, if I have some money to spare,  I'll treat myself to a day at the Spa.
